(Daytona, Florida) - After 24 hours of hard fought racing, Fikse's new Contour-DP race wheel took the checkered flag at the 2006 Rolex 24 at Daytona on the Target Chip Ganassi Racing 02 Daytona Prototype car. "When we set out to design the Contour-DP, our objectives were clear," says Jim Fikse, of Kent, Washington-based Fikse USA.
"We wanted to increase stiffness and reduce weight, which we achieved through finite element analysis, contour milling and extensive testing. This is Fikse's third generation Daytona Prototype wheel; we know that continual evolution in technology is essential. We worked closely with several customers to meet their targets and it's gratifying to see Contour-DP off to an outstanding start."
The new Contour-DP wheel offers compelling advantages: light weight, superior stiffness and the durability required in such a test of speed and perseverance.
The Target Chip Ganassi 02 car set a new distance record in the Grand American era of the Rolex 24 by covering 2,611 miles -- 734 laps -- in 24 hours. Drivers Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon and Casey Mears drove a steady race on the 3.56 mile course clocking a quickest lap of 1:45.902.

Target Chip Ganassi Racing wasn't alone in selecting the Contour-DP; Fikse was the wheel of choice for nearly 30 teams in the DP and GT classes. Other Fikse-clad front runners in the Rolex 24 included Michael Shank Racing, Doran Racing, Pacific Coast Motorsports and Brumos Porsche.
Brumos Porsche is one of the founding DP teams and was the first team to select the remarkably durable Fikse wheels. In this year's Rolex 24, the number 58 Red Bull Brumos Porsche raced on the original Fikse wheels purchased at the inception of the series. Four seasons of punishing use found the original Brumos wheels still racing strong - a true testament to the strength and durability of Fikse forged modular race wheels.
"We're honored that several leading teams selected the Contour-DP as their wheel of choice, based upon their own independent lab and track testing," says Fikse. "We've been supporting teams in the DP series since the start and are committed to offering them excellent service and support throughout."
In other racing news, at the Grand Am Cup Race the Friday before the Rolex classic, the winning car also drove on Fikse wheels. The No. 44 Team Sahlen/Porsche 996, driven by Eric Lux and Charles Espenlaub for Will Nonnamaker, took the Grand Am Cup victory on Fikse's FM/10 Classic series wheels.
